“Being a Family CFO at Moneta Group isn’t work to me,” says Principal Matt Ring. “This is what I love to do and coming to the office is enjoyable and fulfilling. I am blessed to work with such a great team. Having people so dedicated to caring and serving our family of clients gives me the ability to get things done and the confidence to know that we are able to help our clients accomplish their goals. This is about as far from work as you can get.” As a Moneta principal, Matt combines two passionate interests: helping people and personal finance. “My work with clients is perfect for my interests and skills. Experience and my desire to truly help people achieve their financial goals and dreams—it just doesn’t get better than that.”
Prior to partnering with the O’Meara team in 2002, Matt spent seven years at Arthur Andersen. While at AA, Matt had the opportunity to be exposed to several different areas of the business from financial auditing, operations/recruiting and finally as a as a senior tax & financial consultant to corporate executives. “Early on I had an interest in financial planning, but at the time it seemed like everyone wanted to become a financial advisor,” he says. “I was enjoying my role at AA and the timing for a significant change wasn’t quite right.” But after joining Moneta Group, Matt was able to put his passion and expertise in investment portfolio management, retirement analysis, tax and estate planning into place helping successful families plan for their financial futures. “When I saw the results of the work we were doing together, it was extremely gratifying. I knew I had found a place where my skills were a perfect fit for serving our clients. Forging those relationships, getting to know clients and their families has been a rewarding experience.”
Matt also has significant experience in intuitional consulting. “I am fortunate to have the opportunity to interact at many levels of the companies we work with,” he says, “meeting with owners, executives, investment committee members, 401 (k) trustees and, of course, the participants in the plans.” Matt facilitates education seminars for participants and helps respond to their unique questions and concerns. “I think we engage a plan sponsor because of our expertise and great service platform, but we keep them because of the impression we make on the employees who participate in the plan. It’s great to make a ‘Wow!’ impact and see how our involvement encourages people to take ownership of their financial future,” he says.
Matt enjoys working with clients who understand the value of the comprehensive nature of financial planning Moneta Group Family CFOs offer to clients. “Because of my experience in large corporate settings, I have the opportunity to work with individuals with highly divergent financial lives. I like collecting all those puzzle pieces and putting them together so the picture is revealed. And I understand that selecting someone to help you plan for your future is a big decision, and I’m humbled by the trust people place in me. Forging a relationship for the long term is my duty, but it is also the thing that makes me love what I do.”
Matt and his wife Susie have two young sons, Colin and Owen. Matt is actively involved with the boys’ sports, coaching soccer, basketball and baseball teams. He also enjoys golfing, hiking, reading and traveling.
