After earning a Bachelors of Science in Accounting and a Masters in Accountancy at Boston College Carroll School of Management, Coleman Sheehan joined the investment management division of PricewaterhouseCoopers as an auditor, working with successful businesses, private equity firms and hedge funds. "It was interesting work, but it wasn't long before I knew I wanted to have input into the decisions that mattered in the planning stages, rather than being someone who was simply looking for the mistakes that might have been avoided," Coleman says. "As an auditor, I felt like an investigator; I wanted to work with clients as their advocate instead of being responsible for pointing out the slip-ups."
At Moneta Group, as a professional consultant for the Blair team, he values sitting on the same side of the table as the clients. "At PWC, I had almost an adversarial role, which was ultimately unsatisfying for me. At Moneta, the suggestions I make can actually help design plans that achieve the goals and dreams people have for themselves and their families. Contributing to that process is what I enjoy most; that and getting to know our clients."
He also finds the dynamic nature of his work rewarding. "It's a constantly changing environment. I love being busy, on my toes all day. And I'm always learning, always adding to my areas of expertise and experience. It's a role that's constantly evolving." That, coupled with the relationships he is developing with clients, make this the ideal place for him. "I brought a lot of technical expertise with me to Moneta. Now I'm enjoying the process of learning the Family CFO role."
