Our Story

In 1905, Moneta Group opened its doors in downtown St. Louis. In 1958, we moved to Clayton and are soon to celebrate our 50th year as a Clayton corporate citizen. Over the past 100 years, Moneta has evolved into a comprehensive financial planning firm that today is one of the nation’s largest – totaling over $5.7 billion in assets under management.

In 2004, Moneta Group’s Client Advisory Board, a steering committee composed of the firm’s clients, expressed concern that our independent status invited potential for buyout. This, they felt, could inevitably impact the personal attention, flexibility and tradition to which the firm’s clients have grown accustomed.

In response to that concern, Moneta Group restructured itself. Under the new arrangement, Peter Schick, the firm’s managing director, sold 92 percent of the firm to its existing 26 principals. A pre-determined exit strategy was put in place wherein retiring principals will sell their interests to our own new generation of principals, thereby making it unnecessary to sell the firm to outside interests. The new operating structure helps ensure that clients can look forward to multi-generational relationships with an independent Moneta Group.
